Case studyDescription
This case-study explores the findings of a Poverty Footprint study in the horticultural sector in Kenya, published jointly by Oxfam and IPL (International Procurement and Logistics Ltd) in 2013.
Key findings were that women make up over 60% of the workforce and whilst the sector provides job opportunities women workers are disempowered, suffer sexual harassment and bear a disproportionately high burden of family care.
As a result of the study, IPL committed to make improvements in health and safety, women's pay, access to bank accounts, and in childcare provision, and to reduce discrimination.
