    Description

This case study analyses the approach, practice and lessons emerging from the work of Thušanang Trust in building the capacity of Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners and parents in rural communities in Limpopo Province, South Africa.

The document is in three main parts. Part 1 explores the policy, strategy and challenges of providing ECD in South Africa. Part 2 is an exploration of the approach and practice of Thušanang Trust in building capacity to increase effective ECD services in rural communities. Part 3 discusses three emerging lessons based on the Thušanang experience. A Conclusion recognises the importance of integrating the work of ECD practitioners with parents, families, institutions, and the wider community, and is supported by a comprehensive listing of references.

This case study profiles Thušanang Trust, an NGO based in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, which has built the capacity of ECD practitioners through formal training for more than 20 years, and is very aware of the limitations of the work. In response to these challenges, Thušanang developed a programme to raise awareness and train parents on how to support the work of ECD practitioners at home, so maximising development opportunities for children.

This document is one of a number of publications highlighting NGO good practice and emerging issues from partner organisations supported by Oxfam in South Africa.

    Export search results

The export button (to the right?) will allow you to export the search results of the entered query to a CSV file. To export the items, click the "Export" button.

There are two options to select the items you want to export to a CSV. Either you export all results from a search query, or you select a subset of items from the search results.

To select a subset of the search results, click "Selective Export" in the Export menu.

After making a selection, click the 'CSV' button. The amount of items that will be exported is indicated in the bubble next to 'CSV'.

The amount of items you can export is limited, but authenticating will increase this limit.
