Increasingly, credit is a key element in development strategies. There are a variety of approaches to its use. This article considers these, in light of the question 'is credit provision empowering women borrowers?' The broad spectrum of credit mechanisms is reviewed, and some important cautionary notes are suggested. This article is hosted by our co-publisher Taylor & Francis.
