SOF is an NGO working to raise living standards and gain health and reproductive rights for poor women in south-eastern Brazil. Faure charts SOF's progress from a family planning to a feminist organisation. It works alongside women's and health movements and has achieved considerable success, instigating change in health infrastructures and policies, and integrating women into social movements, politics, and trade unions. Workshops and self examinations are teaching women to see themselves as participants in, rather than objects of, sexual activities. More success looks likely for SOF in the future, as they link the specific to the general in their fight for women's freedoms. This article is hosted by our co-publisher Taylor & Francis.
