Yasmin explains how the NGO Saptagram, is challenging gender biases that keep Bangladeshi landless rural women in poverty. Its efforts to empower women by increasing their employment opportunities have met with mixed success. The challenges Saptagram faces are huge: women as much as men do not regard the work they do as 'real' work. A strong distinction exists between the male sphere (where the cash is) and the female sphere. On the plus side, organisation by women to tackle their problems has produced many positive results.
