Oxfam welcomes the establishment of the independent Commission for Integration and Social Cohesion. Our response draws upon our experience set out above, and also that of our programme partners - grassroots organisations engaged in regeneration, community cohesion and anti-poverty work in England, Scotland and Wales. Our experience, both in the UK and globally, shows that community cohesion cannot be engineered; that successful cohesion comes from community members and sub-groups within communities coming together and engaging in decision-making on their own terms.en_US
