Description
This article charts the history of the Yugoslav women's movement to the present day. The previously strong women's movement is now splitting along patriarchal nationalist lines. NGOs and women's groups are multiplying. They support women and children affected by the conflict. Oxfam seeks to empower these groups by providing a space for them to develop a voice, as well as income generating activities and networks. This is a long way from traditional social views that portray women as guardians of culture and politics as a male-only sphere.
