Description
Women working in India's informal and agricultural sectors are being trapped into poverty. 'Women's Liberation and Rehabilitation Society' (WLARS) is helping women is scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in Madhugiri Taluk. The organisation aims to empower women through income generating projects (the income is of secondary importance.) WLARS wants social and economic equality and advocacy for women's rights. It has seen its share of successes and failures and, overall, poor women's everyday lives have improved. One significant achievement is that husbands' initial resistance has given way to approval, not least because the women are earning material gains for their families and communities.
