Description
A conference by 'One World Action' that focused on Saharawi women refugees, has highlighted how women worldwide cope with displacement. The true picture is starkly different to that portrayed by Western media and understood by Western aid agencies. Women refugees are not 'victims' but empower themselves by running the camps and assuming traditional male roles as leaders and managers. The women know that their rights are being denied and are demanding these rights. They look to the future and are fighting to keep their newly found roles and rights when conflict ends and they return home.
