Description
In 1999, the River Basin Programme (RBP) started operating in Char areas, aiming to improve the living conditions and coping capacity of Char dwellers vulnerable to flooding. Oxfam GB Bangladesh worked with 11 partner NGOs to implement the RBP in eight districts in Bhrahmmaputra, Jamuna and the Ganges River Basin. The RBP aimed to reduce vulnerability and enhance the livelihoods of Char and Haor dwellers. The final Review of RBP was conducted in 2006 in four different partner locations, looking at targeted and non-targeted project participants, community people, Government officials, PNGOs and CLP officials. The main purpose was to assess the effectiveness of RBP in relation to its impact and the benefits to poor and vulnerable people. The Review will also help to plan future actions to take forward the RBP for Char and Haor dwellers.
