Description
In May 2004, AA Mongolia implemented a thirty-two month project entitled 'Disaster Mitigation and Preparedness in Western Mongolia', with grant funding from Oxfam GB. The project aimed to strengthen the resistance of poor herders and other residents affected by winter disasters in three soums (counties) in Zavkhan Province. This was achieved by improving access to irrigation, hay and fodder; developing improved food and income alternatives; and increasing the skills and knowledge of herders and local officials. AA Mongolia integrated and extended the activities of four of its programmes: food security, micro-finance, disaster relief and well restoration. The project was completed in December 2006 and AA's Mongolia office hired a consultant to conduct a final evaluation. The aims of the evaluation were to assess the achievements of the project in terms of its specific objectives, impact and effects, sustainability and replicability, and relevance of outputs to development priorities and needs.
