Description
China remains a closed society and there is a lack of information in the North about its women. It is easy to see the denial of Chinese women's rights without also appreciating their achievements. A 1994 summer school at the 'Great Britain-China Centre' aimed to forge understanding between Chinese and British women. It looked at challenges faced by small Chinese NGOs, and the Government's imposition of the 'All China Women's Federation' on the women's movement. The school sowed seeds of change from political passivity to action, including round reproductive health rights, and for professional networking.
